Our October workshop was in Leo
O’Donoghue’s workshop in Little Island where there was a large attendance. Our host demonstrated a square bowl in ash
with his usual skill and dexterity.
Before we got down to the main work of the
day we got a demo on spindle-turning and long-hole-boring from a very young
turner, Peter O’Donoghue, who did a great and very professional job under the
watchful eye of his mentor and granddad, Leo.
This was our first visit to Little Island
since Leo’s beloved wife, Eileen, passed away and it must have been a poignant
– indeed lonely – occasion for the entire family. We used to look forward to her superb cooking
– apple tarts and pavlova especially – but she must have been smiling from her
place ion Heaven because her family put on a spread that she could only have
been very proud of. Thank you.
There was a good entry for the competition –
a bowl of any size or kind – and Ger Hennessy’s bowl with handles won the
Advanced Section.
