 The Cork Chapter IWG will hold a one day Seminar on Saturday 23rdh April at the Scout Hall, Tramore Road (Togher Road Junction), Cork. Eircode: T12 W658.

The Demonstrator is Seamus Cassidy. Registration: Tea/Coffee from 9am, Demonstration commencing 10am.


The cost of the Seminar is €50, which includes hot Lunch; Dessert; Tea/Coffee.


A Master Class will take place with Seamus on Sunday 24th April, numbers will be limited and priority given to Cork Members. Cost €25 including Lunch.

 Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 30th April 2022 in Togher at 12 noon. Following the AGM there will be a tea/coffee break, followed by Donal Ryan from Limerick who will perform a demo starting at 2pm and will last for about 2 hours. Donal is a very experienced professional turner who has demonstrated for us in the past. The committee is encouraging all members to attend the AGM to elect the incoming committee for 2022. We haven't had an AGM for 2 years and perhaps some members would be prepared to serve on the committee. All positions are open, to be filled by anyone interested in doing so.

 Our Annual Seminar will be held on Saturday April 23rd 2022 in the Scout Hall Togher. On Saturday, there will be a Masterclass held in Tony Farrell's workshop. Our demonstrator will be Seamus Cassidy. Seamus is a well known professional woodturner who has demonstrated for us in the past. We look forward to welcoming him back to Cork again this year.

 Our next workshop will be held in Togher next Saturday 19 March 2020 at 1-30pm.  Our demonstrator will be Kevin Geaney. The competition piece will be a wedding goblet with two captive rings as demonstrated by Peter Manning a our last workshop. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

It is with regret that I announce the death of a former member of the Cork Chapter of the Irish Woodturners Guild, Brendan Murphy.  Brendan was a Gentleman, who used to demonstrate and host workshops at his home in Carrigogna , Midleton. We the members of the Cork Chapter would like to extend our condolences to his son Cormac, daughters Sharon and Ingrid  and to the extended Murphy family.

MURPHY Brendan (Carrigogna, Midleton and formerly of 67 Main Street). On March 6th 2022 in his 89th year, peacefully in the loving care of the staff at Grange Con Nursing Home. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis, loving father of Sharon, Cormac and Ingrid, grandfather of Amy, Emma and Hannah, brother in law of Eithne (Waters). Sadly missed also by his daughters in law Liz and Linda, son in law Johnny, sister Susan, sisters in law Helen and Áine, brother in law Dermot, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

 It is with regret that I announce the death of a former member of the Cork Chapter of the Irish Woodturners Guild, Larry Clarke.

LARRY CLARKE (Lorcan) Ladysbridge, Co. Cork and formerly of Artane, Dublin. (Ex Aer Lingus Dublin and Cork). On March 1st 2022 peacefully in the excellent care of Oaklodge Nursing Home. Beloved husband of the late Theresa, brother of Seamus, Frank, Roisín (Fitzgerald) and companion Rose, sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Larry will repose on Friday in Hyde’s Funeral Home, Drury’s Avenue, Midleton on Friday from 3pm to 5pm for family and friends.

Requiem Mass on Saturday 5th at 1130am in St. Mary’s Church, Ladysbridge followed by a cremation service at the Island Crematorium Ringaskiddy at 2pm.
